For most poker fans, “High Stakes Poker” was their favorite poker show. The show featured some of the best players in the world playing for real money. On any given night, you could have a $500,000+ pot. The show featured less banter from the announcers and more banter from the players, which is what people really wanted to hear. Every poker player has imagined themselves taking a seat at the “Big Game” and playing with the best in the world. “High Stakes Poker” allowed them a glimpse into this lifestyle.

The fate of “High Stakes Poker” is unknown at this time. The show is broadcast on GSN, and recently the network decided not to pick up the seventh season of the World Poker Tour. This decision almost certainly means that they won’t continue to air “High Stakes Poker” anytime in the future. A new season of the show has not been filmed.

Sadly, it appears as though “High Stakes Poker” is dead. We do have four seasons and 56 episodes of the show though. Here are some of the best moments from the show, in no particular order:

Stock Market Alert - SQNM was one of the biggest winners on the Nasdaq on Friday, trading up over 16% to close the regular session at $14.94. The stock set a new multi-year high of $15.25 before pulling back slightly and closing at $14.94. Volume was extremely strong on the day, with almost five million shares of the stock changing hands, compared to a normal daily average volume of 967k. The stock has been on a tear as of late, doubling in the past two weeks. The stock has been surging higher after the company said that its prenatal Down syndrome test was proven to be effective. This news has led to strong institutional buying as the company said that it hopes to launch the product in early 2009.

With this uptick on Friday, the stock hit a new 52 week high of $2.74. IVAN has been steadily trending higher over the past couple of months, and its strong close on Friday should help propel the stock higher in the upcoming week.

Stock Market Alert - MALL shareholders received an early Easter present on Thursday after their stock roared almost 90% higher in heavy trading. The stock, which opened the day at $7.79, slowly traded higher throughout the session before exploding at the bell. Volume and price both spiked in the last hour of trading as the stock ended up closing at $14.07. Volume was almost 10x the normal daily average, as almost 4 million shares of the stock were traded compared to an average daily volume of 400k. The big question is - why did the stock trade higher on the session? Is there news coming soon? Was someone moving into the stock or covering a large short position? Can the stock maintain this momentum next week? We’re going to keep an eye on this one going forward.

Stock Market Alert - LXRX shrugged off the panic that gripped Wall Street on Friday, finishing the day up over 30% after spiking near the close of trading. The stock closed the regular session at $2.23, good for a 31% gain on the day. Volume was heavier than usual, with total volume of over 500k shares, compared to a normal daily average volume of 340k shares. The question becomes - what exactly happened on Friday? Was it a value investor moving into the company, finally sensing that the bottom might be near in the stock? Was it somebody anticipating a positive news release in the near future? Or was it somebody covering a rather sizable short position? This stock just appeared on our radar on Friday, and we will be delving more into the company over the coming days. It appears to offer some pretty possibilities for a long position.

Stock Market Alert - ORCL gave their shareholders an early Christmas present on Thursday in the form of a strong Q2 earnings report that sent the stock up over 6% in heavy trading. Over 78 million shares of the stock changed hands, compared to a normal daily average of just over 37 million shares. The company reported Q2 earnings of 25 cents per share and revenues of $5.3 billion dollars, which brought many words of congratulations from analysts and investors alike who praised the company’s strong performance. Analysts are particularly excited about how the company is continuing to build customer loyalty with its products, which should point to continued good things for the company in the future. 2008 is looking to be a strong year for the company as investor optimism is high and the stock is right near its 52 week high.

Stock Market Alert - ETFC shares have been on a roller-coaster ride for the past couple of weeks, and they continued the wild ride on Friday as the stock soared over 25% to close the regular session at $5.33. Traders continue to speculate that the company will soon be sold to a rival, with potential buyers including TD Ameritrade and Charles Schwab. ETFC certainly seems receptive to being purchased, which leads me to believe that a deal will be done sooner rather than later. Volume spiked on Friday, with over 93 million shares of the stock changing hands, compared to a normal daily average of just over 31 million shares traded. ETFC currently has a market cap of $2.26 billion dollars.
